How to... survive the Big Day

How to... survive the Big Day This summer I am sharing some of my tips for attending book events, to hopefully aid new authors, and those stepping out to events for the first time. Blog Posts: How to pick your events Getting ready - what you need to take The big day Today I am going to be sharing my insight into what to expect from attending an event as an author. 1. ARRIVAL & SET-UP 2. THE SELLING BIT 3. WHAT ELSE TO DO 1. ARRIVAL Getting There You need to read the emails that the organisers have sent to you. It will give you details on how to get there and, as a trader, where you have to bring your vehicle; as this can sometimes be different to the main entrance attendees will be using. They will often give you advice on where to park your car - even if you've been to this event before, it's good to check that nothing has changed. They will give you times for unpacking all your gear. If you are going to a comic con, the organisers may mention unloading gear the day befor...

How to... get ready for a Book Event

How to... get ready for a Book Event This summer I am sharing some of my tips for attending book events, to hopefully aid new authors, and those stepping out to events for the first time. Blog Posts: How to pick your events Getting ready - what you need to take The big day Today I am going to be sharing my insight into what I take as standard to all of my book events, and where I get everything from. Please keep in mind that I am a Fantasy author, based in the UK; and that I buy from UK suppliers. 1. WHAT BOOKS TO TAKE 2. HOW TO MAKE YOUR TABLE LOOK PRETTY 3. OTHER IMPORTANT BITS 1. WHAT BOOKS TO TAKE The Books The big question for authors - what books to take with you? Once you've been to a few events, you'll get to know how many sales you can expect. Keeping in mind, I've only gone to mid-size one-day events so far. I generally take about 10 copies of each of my books, and sometimes take 12 of my series starters, because they tend to sell a little more. (When I go to the ...

How to... pick your Book Event This summer I am sharing some of my tips for attending book events, to hopefully aid new authors, and those stepping out to events for the first time. Blog Posts: How to pick your events Getting ready - what you need to take   The big day Today I am going to be sharing my insight into the events that I have attended, and what has worked for me. Please keep in mind that I am a Fantasy author, so other genres might have a different result. 1. TYPE OF EVENTS & RESULTS 2. HOW TO FIND & BOOK EVENTS 3. WHAT TO DO NEXT 1. TYPE OF EVENTS & RESULTS Book/Literary Events                     Let's start with the most obvious one. Clearly, Book and Literary Events are going to be solely focussed on books. I think they're a great place to start, and excellent for meeting and networking with other authors. I always try to go to at least one Lit Event a year, as they are a lot of fun, and...

Book release: Sophie

The time has finally come for Sophie's prequel to the Witch-Hunter trilogy. It has been five years since the trilogy was released, and I know fans have been keen to find out more about Sophie's history, before she joins the MMC.

Bradford Steampunk & Gothic Fair

Bradford Steampunk & Gothic Fair Hello lovely readers, as anyone who has been following me on Facebook or Twitter already know, I attended my first Steampunk Fair on Saturday 27th May. I was really excited to be invited by the lovely Catherine Gilford, to be an attending author. My writing hasn't ventured into the Steampunk genre yet, but it's a fun foray into Fantasy and Witchcraft. I personally love the whole Goth vibe, especially the music and fashions - it just seemed to strike a chord when I was younger.

Book Release: The Oracle

Image
Happy New Year! Hello lovely readers, I hope you're all having your perfect New Year. Whether that's going to parties, time with family; or as I am probably doing (this post was pre-written) sitting in my new Christmas pyjamas reading the new book my boyfriend got me. (Or my best friend has persuaded me to go out and let my hair down). 2016 had many highs and lows. It was an awesome year for the Olympics and sport in general: Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro cemented their place in horsey history. The ongoing wars, refugee crises, , and horrendous attacks. This has also been the year that we have lost so many legends, it seems unreal. I'm not even going to mention politics... I have high hopes for 2017 being a great year. Countdown to... Halloween

Image
We have come to that time of year, when the C-word is not allowed to be mentioned until after Halloween. (Or for some of my British readers, everything xmassy gets put off until after Bonfire Night) We are into the rundown until Halloween, which means for most modern people that it's time to knock together costumes, and stock the cupboard with sweets for the local kids. (I'm planning on dressing as Maleficent this year - a child-hating witch - perfect!)

Exciting times...

Drumroll please... Big news first - the final part of the Witch-Hunter trilogy has been released. The Shadow Falls available in paperback and kindle Synopsis: Hunter Astley has always known that he is different: being a witch-hunter that can use magic has sealed his fate. He must destroy the Shadow Witch once and for all, with the help of some unlikely allies. We delve even deeper into the world of the Malleus Maleficarum; into myth, rumour and history that refuses to stay in the past. Which is absolutely bloody brilliant news! To celebrate the release, the first part of the Witch-Hunter series is free to download from Amazon for the whole weekend - Friday 5th to Sunday 7th. The Shadow Rises I am torn - a large part of me is currently bouncing around with excitement and telling anyone who will listen that book number 3 is real and ready to complete Hunter's story. But I'm also a little scared.  It has been a lifelong ambition to be a published writer, and now...

Good news, everybody!

Well, it looks like another of those over-stimulating weekends where I should go sit down and have a nice cup of tea instead. I had two causes for excitement this week, and I will leave you to judge exactly how geeky I am to get worked up. For example, over the years of wanting to be an author, and dreaming of the day when I would see a book with my name on the shelf - I never imagined how giddy I would get over a bookmark. But I dare you to look at it and not agree with my friend Khloe, that it is "sexy as phuck". This is part of the promo package that popped up in my email from my cover designer Beth Syler .  She's the amazing artist who has done all three covers for the Witch-Hunter series.  I'd like to say that she's made my books look professional - but "professional" seems too sterile a word.  She's made my books look... addictive. Anyway, as agreed, Beth had done the cover for book 3 - The Shadow Falls (which can be seen on my websi...
