Threadneedle

Image
Threadneedle by Cari Thomas 4 out of 5 Synopsis Within the boroughs of London, nestled among its streets, hides another city, filled with magic. Magic is the first sin. It must be bound. Ever since Anna can remember, her aunt has warned her of the dangers of magic. She has taught her to fear how it twists and knots and turns into something dark and deadly. It was, after all, magic that killed her parents and left her in her aunt’s care. It’s why she has been protected from the magical world and, in one year’s time, what little magic she has will be bound. She will join her aunt alongside the other Binders who believe magic is a sin not to be used, but denied. Only one more year and she will be free of the curse of magic, her aunt’s teachings and the disappointment of the little she is capable of. Nothing – and no one – could change her mind before then. Could it? Review Anna has grown up fearing her non-existent magic, waiting til the day it can be officially bound by the Binders. Her

Strictly on Ice When falling in love comes with the risk of falling flat on your face ... Former Olympic skating champion Katie Saunders is well known for her ‘ice queen’ persona in the press. On the face of it, perhaps Katie should have forgiven her former skating partner and ex-boyfriend, Alex Michaelson, for the accident that shattered both her ankle and their Olympic dreams – but she just can’t seem to let it go. When Katie reluctantly agrees to take part in a new TV skating show, it’s only because she’s desperate for cash. What she didn’t count on is the drama – not only is she partnered up with infamous love rat rugby player Jamie Welsh, but one of the judges is none other than Alex Michaelson himself. As the show progresses, will Katie be shown the hard way, once again, that romance on the ice should remain strictly off-limits? #IndieApril Guide for Authors

Image
#IndieApril Guide for Authors In the spirit of #IndieApril I am sharing a few tips for new authors, or authors that feel like they've yet to make traction. I've pulled together some tips. Many of these are basic and easy to do, and I just want to show authors that it really is worth doing these little things. I will also try to include budget options for each tip (where applicable), because I definitely didn't have any spare resources when I first published. A bit of background - I am the UK fantasy author K.S. Marsden. I have ten books published, and a reasonable income from them. I am also a prolific reader and reviewer (hence this blog). I read up to 100 books a year, and try and promote as many authors as possible. Which means I'm part of your target audience, and can give advice from both sides of the book industry. 1. Cover 2. Online platforms 3. Reviews 4. Newsletter 5. Advertising 1. Does your book look the part? Now, be honest with me, and with yourself. Does y

Miniskirts are Murder by Des Burkinshaw 3 out of 5  Synopsis Porter Norton, his friends and his sarcastic spirit guide, The Gliss, are on the trail of a young actress who went missing in Soho, London, in the Swinging Sixties. Still recovering from their last adventure in the battlefields of WW1, the gang are confronted by a transatlantic conspiracy. Review Porter and his friends have their next case - a young girl who went missing in the sixties, which is just the tip of the iceburg. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. This is the second book in the Porter & The Gliss series, but the first book I've read. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a stand-alone, but it explains everything nicely, and I didn't feel at a loss for not having read the first book. Porter Norton is a solicitor-turned-detective. This is a new development, he can sense the dead if they had emotional or physical pain; and he has a floating head of a sidekick, The Glitch. Karin
