"My name is Amanda and at the ripe age of 23 I'm dead. I got the biggest shock of my after-life, when I discovered that what I thought was a near-death experience was just...death. What could be weirder than that you say? I just met death and his name is Derek."
Amanda discovers that in order to move on, she must experience the things she never did while alive, Accompanied by her very own Grim Reaper.
Review
Amanda died under less-than-glorious circumstances; and now she has to achieve three goals before she can move on. Luckily, she has Death (a.k.a. Derek) to help.
I read a snippet of this book in Indie Visible, and found it very amusing. I was thrilled that the full book is just as good, if not better!
I loved this. I read it over a weekend, and it just seemed the perfect balance of humour, endearing characters, and quirkiness (not to mention a very romance-worthy Death, who happens to be called Derek).
Amanda is a really cool character. She never gave a shit about people's opinions of her when she was alive, and she's not about to change now she's dead. She's very happy with her life, being independent and a bit of a loner, being a bit weird and fine with that.
She's got a good heart, and definitely someone I'd be friends with.
The rest of the cast are fantastically eclectic. I mean Bob, I think Amanda could have had a meaningful friendship just with him!
This is a standalone book, and it wraps the story up nicely, and I really liked the direction the plot went.
As funny and kooky as some parts are; it is balanced with some very sincere parts, covering grief and mourning.
I highly recommend checking this book out!
