Synopsis
Presented by James Patterson's new children's imprint, this deliciously creepy horror novel has a storyline inspired by the Ripper murders and an unexpected, blood-chilling conclusion...

Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord's daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.

Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

The story's shocking twists and turns, augmented with real, sinister period photos, will make this dazzling, #1 New York Times bestselling debut from author Kerri Maniscalco impossible to forget.

Review
Audrey Rose doesn't care for society's expectations, she would rather sneak around, learning autopsy skills, and hunting down a notorious killer.

This was a fun read, following Audrey Rose, her uncle, and his maddening protege Thomas (a young Sherlock Holmes); as they try to track down Jack the Ripper before he kills again.

Audrey Rose is an intelligent young lady, and has taken an interest in science from a young age. This has been nurtured by her uncle, a respected doctor and teacher, who performs autopsies for the police.
I liked our main character, she has her ambitions, and is willing to fight for them. At the same time, she is aware that is against the wishes of her father and society, so she takes care to keep it secret.
Despite embracing science and an unusual career, Audrey Rose insists that it doesn't have to come at the expense of her femininity. She's perfectly capable of liking dresses and make-up, then spending her spare time up to her elbows in viscera.

I enjoyed the story, as it follows the killings of the notorious Jack the Ripper.
As the general public reach panic point, and the police are chasing in circles, trying to pin the murders on someone; it is up to Audrey Rose and Thomas to follow cool science and logic to track the real villain.

If I'm honest, I felt clues were dropped in their paths by sheer luck, rather than any real detective talent. That being said, it was still really entertaining.

I will definitely be continuing with this series (well, it is Dracula next!).
