Review
After witnessing a mob murder, Delaney takes the first chance she has to hide. Pretending to be someone sent by a matchmaker shouldn't be too hard... except her match is a vampire.
This is the first book I've read by Painter, and I downloaded this for free.
It was an awful lot of fun!
This was a light-hearted about mixed identities, conniving grandmothers, and all manner of supernatural creatures.
Delaney is driven by her survival instinct, that she doesn't give much thought about driving across the country to live in a strange man's house for a month. She doesn't know anything about him, except his name and address, but it seems like the best gamble she can take right now.
I really liked Delaney, she is fun, outspoken, and very open-minded about the people she has gone to live with (when she finally finds out what they are).
Hugh is a vampire, and hundreds of years old. He has no intention of committing to a serious relationship, but unfortunately, his pushy grandmother has made plans. Hugh reluctantly agrees to let this mystery woman stay for one month, but has no romantic intentions towards her...
Hugh is the perfect gentleman, he is kind and noble, and he helps run the town his family founded. He's just such a nice guy.
The plot is good for a romantic comedy, as the threat of the gangsters hovers in the background.
And the Halloween-based town is a lot of tongue-in-cheek fun. Oh yeah, and there's a bit with a cat - I love Delaney's cat!
The ending felt a bit rushed. After the characters both being uninterested in commitment for so long, that they want to rush two very big decisions.
Overall, I really enjoyed this light read, and I'm interested in seeing what the res of Nocturne Falls gets up to in the sequels!
